Storage conditions influence post thaw recovery

Fowke, K.R., et al., Apoptosis: a method for evaluating the cryopreservation of whole blood and peripheral blood mononuclear cells. J Immunol Methods, 2000, 244(1-2): p. 139-44.

The article compares the influence of storage temperature on recovery of human whole blood samples. Improper storage conditions were shown to increase the fraction of cells undergoing apoptosis.  Why we like it: reinforces what has been known since the 1960's while updating the molecular methods used to characterizing cell response.  It also raises some very interesting questions.
