BioCoR Resources
BioCoR is not a biorepository but a national core resource on biopreservation. BioCoR provides three basic functions: (1) a Service Resource for those who need assistance in developing standard biopreservation protocols and techniques; (2) a Research Resource where new methods of preserving biospecimens and technology to improve biospecimen quality are developed; and (3) an Educational/Training Resource for educating individuals and institutions on the scientific basis for preservation, teaching best practices and supplying protocol-specific as a service to the community. BioCoR Services Resource
BioCoR's service resource is designed to provide
scientifically-developed biopreservation protocols for
biospecimens. Protocols developed will reflect new advances in
biospecimen preservation as well as the unique needs of the client.

BioCoR Education Resource
Literally thousands (if not tens of thousands) of people preserve biospecimens as a part of their daily work routine. Most institutions do not have the resources to train individuals involved in preservation of biospecimens. BioCoR has an education program, which includes: (1) short course on preservation, (2) on-lne video/podcast library and (3) protocol specific training.
BioCoR Research Resource
BioCoR is investigating molecular mechanisms of damage during preservation in order to develop alternatives to DMSO and establish scientifically-based methods (rather than the traditional trial-and-error based techniques) of preserving biospecimens that do not respond to conventional preservation methods. BioCoR is also developing technologies to maintain, monitor and improve biospecimen quality.
